In Disney sitcom, LIZZIE MCGUIRE, a young girl struggles with popularity, boys, clothes, and other issues of dire importance to typical teens. Starring entertainer Hilary Duff (who began a career in pop singing during this series), Lizzie represents a cute, imperfect girl-next-door type who tries to master the art of junior high school. Her private thoughts and insights frequently spring to life in the form of a cartoon version of herself, and she is frequently accompanied by her best friends--the straight-talking Miranda (Lalaine), and brainy Gordo (Adam Lamberg). Stories often involve Lizzie's angst over her obnoxious brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), typified by the "Misadventures in Babysitting" episode. She also frequently conflicts with the school's popular crowd, such as in "Election." Although Lizzie's school crushes often fail to really blossom, she sometimes has chance romantic encounters with big stars who play themselves on the show. Singer Aaron Carter kisses her in "Aaron Carter is Coming to Town," and MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE star Frankie Muniz asks her out in "Lizzie in the Middle." |
