Written by award-winning novelist Don DeLillo (WHITE NOISE, UNDERWORLD) and directed by Michael Hoffman (SOAPDISH, ONE FINE DAY), GAME 6 is a smart psychological study of a man unable to face the reality of his life. Michael Keaton stars as Nickey Rogan, a successful playwright of Broadway fluff whose new, serious play is scheduled to open on October 25, 1986 -- the same night his beloved Boston Red Sox have a chance at winning the World Series, playing Game 6 against the New York Mets at Shea Stadium. Despite his popular success, Rogan sees his life as being as futile as the Red Sox, who have not won the baseball championship since 1918. He's not very close with his daughter (Ari Graynor), his wife (Catherine O'Hara) is divorcing him, his girlfriend (Bebe Neuwirth) doesn't understand him, and his lead actor (Harris Yulin) has a parasite in his brain that is causing him to forget his lines. Meanwhile, Rogan is terrified that hated theater critic Steven Schwimmer (Robert Downey Jr.) will tear his play apart, leaving him a shell of a man, like his friend Elliot Litvack (Griffin Dunne). A former cabdriver, Rogan spends much of the day stuck in taxis in heavy traffic, attempting to engage the hacks in conversation, and bonding better with strangers than with his friends and family. As the curtain approaches, he can't decide whether he'd rather be at the play or watching the game on television, afraid that both might fail him. Hoffman sets the film in a tight-knit New York City community that moves at a snail's pace, where coincidences both welcome and not abound. Keaton excels as the tortured soul who is looking for that critical hit--in both Broadway and baseball parlance. He just can't face another ball going through his legs. Hoboken's Yo La Tengo composed the movie's excellent score.

In Disney sitcom, LIZZIE MCGUIRE, a young girl struggles with popularity, boys, clothes, and other issues of dire importance to typical teens. Starring entertainer Hilary Duff (who began a career in pop singing during this series), Lizzie represents a cute, imperfect girl-next-door type who tries to master the art of junior high school. Her private thoughts and insights frequently spring to life in the form of a cartoon version of herself, and she is frequently accompanied by her best friends--the straight-talking Miranda (Lalaine), and brainy Gordo (Adam Lamberg). Stories often involve Lizzie's angst over her obnoxious brother, Matt (Jake Thomas), typified by the "Misadventures in Babysitting" episode. She also frequently conflicts with the school's popular crowd, such as in "Election." Although Lizzie's school crushes often fail to really blossom, she sometimes has chance romantic encounters with big stars who play themselves on the show. Singer Aaron Carter kisses her in "Aaron Carter is Coming to Town," and MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE star Frankie Muniz asks her out in "Lizzie in the Middle."

Outsourced is a modern day comedy of cross-cultural conflict and romance. Todd Anderson (Josh Hamilton) spends his days managing a customer call center for American novelty products in Seattle, until his job, along with those of the entire office, are outsourced to India. Adding insult to injury, Todd must travel to India to train his new replacement.

As he lands in India, Todd is assaulted by the sights and sounds of a completely different culture. Navigating through the chaos of Bombay, Todd must train the most unlike team in the ways of America and American novelty products. Between accent and culture training to education on the cheesehead hat and hot dog toaster, Todd frantically tries to increase the effectiveness of the Indian office, so that he can return home to Seattle.

However, it is through his team of quirky yet likable Indian call center workers, including his friendly and motivated replacement, Puro, and the charming, opinionated Asha (Ayesha Dharker), that Todd realizes that he too has a lot to learn not only about India and America, but about himself. Todd soon discovers that being outsourced may be the best thing that ever happened to him. The film is based on an original screenplay by George Wing (50 First Dates) and writing partner, John Jeffcoat, who also directs. Josh Hamilton heads the cast with Ayesha Dharker and Larry Pine. Principle photography took place in Mumbai (Bombay) from February 5 to March 13, 2006, followed by three days in Seattle from April 7-9.

Director Stanley Tong's wildly successful collaboration with international action hero Jackie Chan gets off to a flying start in SUPERCOP, the story of an affable, tenacious, and unstoppable Hong Kong cop's quest to bring down the biggest drug syndicate in the Pacific Rim. Kevin Chan (Chan) and a stunningly beautiful female police officer from mainland China, Hanna Yang (Michelle Khan), pose as brother and sister to infiltrate the crooked operation and once there unleash their spectacular arsenal of high-kicking, bone-rattling kung fu. Chan, whose irresistible onscreen persona suggests a hybrid cinematic reincarnation of Buster Keaton and Bruce Lee, was already the biggest box-office draw in the world when SUPERCOP (originally produced in 1992) gained a U.S. theatrical release in 1996. The film displays Chan's dual mastery of physical comedy and martial arts while also (in outtakes shown behind the closing credits) showcasing his notorious predilection for handling his own stunts. Chan's daredevil approach was shared in the film by his breathtaking costar, Khan, also known as Michelle Yeoh, a former Miss Malaysia who would go on to solidify her reputation as a peerless action star in her own right with the stupendous critical and popular success of the 1999 film CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON.

Chan stars as Dragon Ma, an honest marine cadet in turn-of-the-century colonial Hong Kong, who must do battle with the smugglers and pirates terrorizing the south China sea in order to preserve his company's honor. Revered by Chan-devotees as one of his finest films, PROJECT A seamlessly combines exhilarating action sequences with classic-style slapstick comedy. Chan's energy, timing, and grace are truly infectious, as demonstrated by the hilarious opening bicycle chase and his now legendary homage to Harold Lloyd's SAFETY LAST, in which he plummets from the face of a clock tower with only a series of window awnings to break his fall. A must see for fans of the genre! Sequel: PROJECT A II.

SMILES OF A SUMMER NIGHT

Director: Ingmar Bergman

This romantic comedy, written and directed by Swedish filmmaker Ingmar Bergman, was inspired in part by Shakespeare's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM and later became the basis for both the musical A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC and Woody Allen's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S SEX COMEDY. The principal events take place at a turn-of-the-century manor house where Desirée Armfeldt (Eva Dahlbeck), an actress, and her aging mother are giving a party. Two of the invited guests--Count Malcolm (Jarl Kulle) and Fredrik Egerman (Gunnar Björnstrand), a middle-aged lawyer--are romantically involved with Desirée, a cause for murderous jealousy between the two. Meanwhile, Egerman's youthful wife, Anne (Ulla Jacobsson), who has thus far repulsed all sexual advances on her husband's part, is showing a considerable interest in her stepson (Björn Bjelvenstam)...During the course of the evening, various alliances are formed and dissolved, partners are switched, and all the guests take part in the resulting erotic escapades and intrigue--but in the end, everyone finds their true love. This is lighter, airier fare from a director often associated with existential angst and despair; nevertheless, Bergman's spicy, sophisticated movie received rave reviews and earned him widespread critical acclaim.

A lighthearted meditation on the cares and commitments of adulthood, Bart Freundlich's rom-com drama is a witty, ultra-contemporary vision of urban love. Two Manhattan couples enjoy complicated relationships: Tom and Rebecca (David Duchovny and Julianne Moore) are a glamorous married couple with two kids and a troubled sex life; Rebecca's best friend, Elaine (Maggie Gylenhaal), is in a long-term relationship with Rebecca's brother, Tobey (Billy Crudup), who is also Tom's best friend. Tom has recently quit his advertising job to be a stay-at-home dad, and Rebecca is a successful actress with a depleting libido; thus, despite the couple's obvious closeness, Tom's porn consumption and general distraction have increased considerably. Meanwhile, Elaine juggles a stressful job in publishing and a fledgling career as a children's-book author, while Tobey's job as a copywriter is considerably less demanding. It is soon evident that Tobey has never quite grown up, and when Elaine decides that she wants to get married and have kids, she realizes she'll have to do it with someone else. The turmoil that ensues contains a number of hilarious, emotionally charged encounters between friends and lovers, and an undeniably romantic conclusion. The tale unfolds anecdotally in a style of verbal sparring that recalls Woody Allen; so too does the preponderance of recognizable New York locations, in a view of the city that makes the most of its charms. The movie also boasts well-executed cameos by Ellen Barkin as an imperious publisher, James LeGros as an eccentric songster, Eva Mendes as a temptress from Tobey's past, and Gary Shandling as an earringed therapist.
